ServerI was a little taken aback by the number of commenters that said they don’t read blogs because they don’t want to be “down” or “depressed”. So I thought I’d give them another reason to stop reading, which is that if you truly want to be happy, you have to make yourself as happy as you possibly can be.
I think this is particularly true of bloggers. We all want to be happy, and yet we know that our own happiness is dependent upon others. We want to be happy with our friends and family, so we want to make sure that they are happy too. But we also want to be happy with our writing, and I think the only way to do that is if we are happy with ourselves.
So, here’s the thing. Becherer and Schweitzer are not happy. They’re just okay. They’re not great writers. The truth is that they’re not happy. They’re just happy with themselves. They’re not great writers, so they don’t need to be happy with themselves. They’d be better off if they were happy with themselves, but they don’t like it.
Sometimes I wonder if the way we communicate isn’t so much that we try to be good at it, but that we try to be happy at it. In other words, we’re not really trying to be good at it, but happy at it.
I often think that when we read books or articles or watch movies or television, we are not really reading or watching anything. We are, however, watching or reading something that the author or the writer feels is worth paying attention to. We are all a little bit obsessed with the subject matter of the movie or the book we are watching, and we are all a bit in love with the writers, directors, producers, etc. who make these movies or books.
Becherer Kannett and Schweitzer, two of the most prolific movie writers of our generation, have decided to make their movies and books as “memorable,” “interesting” and “enjoyable” as possible. From time to time they are approached by their fans, but in general, the fan base is still fairly small. They are still in it for the love, not money.
They’re still in it for the love, but in a big way. There are more than a few fans who have made it known that they’d like to see more of the two of them. They’ve written a couple of novels, so perhaps we’ll see something in the works next year.
